Family Zone

We have something from everyone! From hands-on features in our exhibits to take-home craft activities, all-ages can experience traditional and modern aspects of American Indian cultures like nowhere else.

Explore the Museum with new eyes by trying our monthly scavenger hunt!

  • Every month, we will have new items on display from our collections. They will change on the 1st day of each month. Follow our social media to learn more!
  • The scavenger hunt will explore the rest of our “Regional Tour of American Indian Cultures” with pieces that fit the theme of the monthly display.

Craft Activities

Every day in the library, we have small arts and crafts and coloring sheets available for museum guests. The arts and crafts activities vary week to week, depending on the volunteers available.

Touch Tables

Most museums have strict hands-off policies; we offer a slightly different approach to history. Throughout the museum, interactive touch tables allow visitors to grab history and learn through a more hands-on approach. Please be mindful that touching is limited to items on designated touch tables and objects on display should not be touched.

Teaching Lodge

On the 2nd floor, our teaching lodge features a life-size Anishinaabek (Potawatomi, Odawa, and Ojibwe) hunting wigwam. Visitors can climb inside and learn about the different types of natural materials used to make these temporary shelters.

The lodge area also features various traditional games that teach children useful skills.
