The Mitchell Museum strives to be a destination for families and scholars alike. At the Mitchell, some of our 10,000 objects are on display, and you have access to over 3,000 sourced books.
The Stanley Golder Library
The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian collection contains over 3,000 books and periodicals. The library is a members-only circulating library but is open to the public during the museum’s regular hours of operation — with paid admission to the museum. All content is academically sourced and ranges from children-friendly to Ph.D. acceptable.
Mitchell Museum Collections
The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian houses over 10,000 objects carefully stored and monitored. Many objects are on display, but even more are in storage preserved for use by researchers, in future exhibitions, and programs. Access to the collection is by appointment only. The museum’s original mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret American Indian culture from North America from the Paleo-Indian period to the present. We have since limited the geographic scope to the north of Mexico. The collection contains a wide range of materials including basketry, pottery, lithics, clothing and regalia, paintings and drawings, jewelry, rugs, katsinas, dolls, games and sports, fetishes, beadwork, quillwork, shields, weapons, and carvings.
